Netflix will start showing AI ADVERTS midway through streams - as users threaten to cancel, saying 'no one wants this garbage'

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Having your favourite TV show or movie interrupted by adverts is already frustrating, but things could soon be getting worse for Netflix users. At its'Upfront' event on Wednesday, the streaming giant revealed that it would be incorporating adverts made with'generative AI'. Arriving in 2026, these AI-generated adverts will begin to appear not only during mid-content breaks but also when users press pause. And the only way to get rid of these annoying intrusions will be to pay for the more expensive ad-free subscriptions. But in a further twist, Netflix says AI would be used'instantly marry advertisers' ads with the worlds of our shows'.

DefCon 27: How Hackers Used A Netflix Account To Steal Banking Information

#artificialintelligence

DefCon is an annual conference hosted every summer in Las Vegas, Nevada, where thousands of hackers from around the world congregate to learn on new technology vulnerabilities and cyberattacks. Over the past weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, thousands of hackers congregated at the 27th annual DefCon, the world's oldest and largest running hacker convention, to learn from their peers about the latest hacking techniques. During the show, there were sessions like "Say Cheese, How I Ransomwared Your DSLR Camera" by Check Point Software security researcher Eyal Itkin (more on that in a later post), "Defeating Bluetooth Low Energy 5 For Fun", "Breaking Google Home" or "Reverse Engineering 4G Hotspots For Fun, Bugs, And Net Financial Loss". And if that's your thing, then check out the conference's schedule here as well as the event's media server where most of the presentations are available for free. In this report, I'll focus on the presentation titled "Black Mirror: You Are Your Own Privacy Nightmare–The Hidden Threat of Paying For Subscription Services" given by security expert Cat Murdock on how she used information from online subscription services like Netflix, Apple Music or Spotify to access a banking account and steal confidential financial information.

Millennials generation are most likely use another person's Netflix account, 18 percent admitting

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Millennials are the generation most likely to violate Netflix's terms of service by logging in to use someone else's account, according to a new survey. More than 18 percent of that generation uses someone else's login to stream Netflix, compared to Generation X (9 percent) and Baby Boomers (11 percent). The data comes as Netflix prepares to crackdown on illegal account sharing via new artificial intelligence software, which will be able to analyze which users are logged in and then flag shared accounts. This chart illustrates what proportion of Millennials, Baby Boomers and Generation X stream each of the top three major video streaming services through another person's account The move is expected to recoup major money for the video streaming giant: a separate report from Parks Associates found that by 2021, credentials sharing will account for $9.9 billion of losses in pay-TV revenues and $1.2 billion of over-the-top (OTT) revenues. The survey also found that while 68 percent of people still use traditional cable, nearly 92 percent use video streaming for television, movies, sports or music.

Google fixes Translate tool to correct gendered pronouns

The Independent - Tech

Google is working to reduce gender bias in its Google Translate tool after it was accused of sexism for automatically translating sentences to include masculine pronouns. Translations from English into French, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish will also now provide a feminine alternative as well as a masculine one for gendered words such as "strong" or "beautiful." In the past, Google's algorithm had to choose between masculine or feminine when translating a word - automatically defaulting to masculine in many instances. Additionally, the tool will offer gender-specific translations for phrases and sentences from Turkish to English. The update comes after two Stanford University professors pointed out that the artificial intelligence used by Google Translate was converting news articles written in Spanish to English by changing phrases referring to women into "he said" or "he wrote."

How to use Google Home to stream video to your TV and music to your speakers

PCWorld

Google Home's built-in speaker is merely passable, and the smart-home device doesn't have a display at all. But you can use voice commands to stream music to better speakers and to stream video to your TV. The keys are Google's Google Cast and Android TV technologies. Google Cast is a media-streaming protocol that can be found in Google's own Chromecast (audio and video), Chromecast Audio (audio only), and numerous third-party products. Android TV is a smart TV platform present in various media-streaming boxes and TVs, including models from Nvidia, Xiaomi, Sony, Sharp, and Philips.
